MESSAGE

I’m urging you to protect entertainment workers who have lost jobs due to COVID-19. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act is a good start to aiding working families, but it doesn’t provide relief for many musicians and other entertainment workers.

COVID-19 has meant an overnight loss of work for musicians—leaving thousands of us unable to pay for rent or food and jeopardizing healthcare coverage.

Musicians, like other entertainment workers, may not work every day or even every week. There are often extended periods between paying jobs when we are auditioning, interviewing, studying, and honing our craft.

We need a relief package that will address the short-term nature of our work, often for multiple employers. Musicians and others who rely on contract work, tipped jobs, or other freelance gigs need access to benefits.

Please act now to ensure that hundreds of thousands of entertainment workers and their families can continue to pay for food and housing during this public health emergency.

Thank you.

After the World Health Organization officially classified the COVID-19 virus as a pandemic, hundreds of major music festivals as well as indie concerts and productions have been canceled or postponed in an unprecedented turn of events. Like all industries around the world, the entertainment sector is being hit hard by the pandemic!

I was scheduled to perform at several venues during the month of March and also on several dates during the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas.

My future dates and SXSW dates were all canceled following the withdrawal of several companies, including Netflix, Amazon and Apple due to the Corona Virus.

For an artist like myself, the loss of exposure hurts nearly as much as my financial one. Music careers are boosted and kick started at SXSW. It will be next to impossible to replicate that type of exposure anywhere else.

Aealth Heaeahis a music artist and entertainer, I am going unpaid as the gig economy is frozen. I don’t have a savings. Not being able to perform at shows due to cancellations and no business is really hurting all of us entertainers.

Almost no one will escape the financial impact of this pandemic. It’s like I’m watching all of my hard work and career burst in to flames right before my eyes!

For some artists, this will be career ending, I just pray to GOD that I am not one of them!

Coronavirus closures are having a extreme impact on the music scene.
When it was announced on the news that bars and clubs were being shut down in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, performing music artist such as myself was hit hard.

Before concerns over the coronavirus peaked, I was booked for several performances local and out of state. I have already lost a few thousand dollars in travel purchases and non-refundable accommodations that I can’t recoup. All music concerts and festivals have been canceled.

Early last year I was also diagnosed with an abnormality in my breast that will require surgery. The imaging studies alone were insufficient to declare the abnormality benign, causing me to have a tissue sample done using a needle biopsy technique. I am now not only unable to pay this bill, I am unable to afford the surgery to have the mass in my breast removed.
My finances have been greatly affected! I have now fallen behind on both rent, bills as well as medical expenses. I have received a notice to vacate from my landlord and several shut off & past due notices. Please assist.

I am in need for

  • Medical expenses;
  • Rent and mortgage payments, food, utilities, and other living expenses.

Sincerely,

Dominicquell “Boss” Turner
